The Curse Trailer Showtime (2023) Emma Stone
Showtime has released the trailer for its upcoming series “The Curse”, created by Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, and starring Fielder himself and Emma Stone.
The show explores “how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple as they try to conceive a child while co-starring on their problematic new HGTV show, Flipanthropy”.
The series includes guest appearances from Barkhad Abdi, Corbin Bernsen, and Constance Shulman.
The trailer features Fielder and Emma Stone moving to the southwestern town of EspaƱola to do some gentrifying, captured on-camera by Safdie in a really cool wig. “This isn’t your typical home-flipping show. My homes are reflecting the local community,” Stone says in voice-over, as she stands in front of a house that is entirely covered in reflective siding. “And we’re husband and wife. So what can go wrong?” she asks.
The trailer also shows that, at some point, Safdie wants to “grab a quick shot” of Fielder giving money to a Black girl in a parking lot, and when the camera stops rolling, he snatches it back from her, because the $100 bill was all he had on him. Looking back at the footage, he and Stone see the girl say “I curse you”. At this point, everything seems to unravel: there is tension between the two life partners, tension between them and the community, a car swerving off-road, and guys with guns.
The music playing in the trailer is “The Weight”, a 1968 single by the Canadian-American group the Band, included on their debut album, “Music from Big Pink”.
The Curse premieres November 10 on Paramount+ with Showtime plan only.
